CPDRC holds “2018 Training Workshop on Population Data Collection and Population Projection Method for Developing Countries”

In the morning of December 3, 2018, the opening ceremony of “Training Workshop on Population Data Collection and Population Projection Method for Developing Countries” was successfully held in Beijing. The workshop was jointly sponsored by China Population and Development Research Center (CPDRC, or Centre of Excellence for South-South Cooperation in Population and Development) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) China office, and financially supported by Digital China Health Technologies Co., Ltd. Statistical officers and experts from a total of 19 countries, namely Burundi, Cambodia, China, Comoros, Cote d'Ivoire, Eritrea, Gabon, Gambia, Kenya, Maldives, Mauritania, Papua New Guinea, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia, participated in the workshop.
 

At the opening ceremony, Wei Yunpeng, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Population Monitoring and Family Development of the National Health Commission (NHC), introduced the history of China's population and family planning development and the future trend of population changes. Speaking during the ceremony, He Zhaohua, Deputy Director-General of Department of International Cooperation of NHC, wished the participants a very fruitful and productive workshop and urged them to make every effort to put into practice what they would gain from this training.

Dr. Babatunde Ahonsi, Representative of UNFPA China Office, extended warm welcome to all participants and sincere congratulations to the successful holding of this workshop. In his opening remarks, Shi Wenzhao, CEO of Digital China Health Technologies Co., Ltd., said that as a representative of enterprise, he would continue to promote the exploration and practice of big data information technology in population and health.

He Dan, Director-General of CPDRC, pointed out that being a key activity of South-South cooperation on population development, this workshop also serves as a preliminary project in support of the "Belt and Road" initiative. CPDRC will continue to deepen and promote the exchanges with organizations from other developing countries, and jointly promote the cooperation in the fields of population and development by establishing profound friendship with various countries.

During the five-day workshop, Cui Hongyan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Population and Employment Statistics Department of National Bureau of Statistics, introduced the main practices and data products of China's population statistics. Dr. Wang Zhenglian from Population and Health Research Center of Duke University provided training on family population projection software PADIS-ProFamy. Professionals from CPDRC introduced the comprehensive survey and evaluation platform, the Population Administration Decision Information System (PADIS) and the population projection software PADIS-INT. Participants were given chance to apply the relevant software to make population projection of their own country.
